McMenamins Grand Lodge Wedding | Portland Wedding Photographer | Dan & Sara

Hi, my name is Kel and I’m perpetually late. For just about everything. Including blogging. So, yeah, I’m just now posting my first wedding of 2014, which was way back in June. Don’t judge.

Dan and Sara had such a wonderful wedding day! The photography portion of their day began with getting ready photos in one of the unique rooms at McMenamins Grand Lodge in Forest Grove, Oregon. Some may have found the room rather dark and hopeless in terms of photography, but I loved the dramatic light that spilled in from the window. It helped tell the story of these two sisters, in that moment, in such a beautiful way. As luck would have it, Sara’s sister (and matron of honor), is one of my good friends and also one of my most loyal long-term clients. She is totally awesome, sarcastic, and funy. So, to be able to visit with my friend (who lives out of state) was an added bonus.

Sara wore adorable little navy blue ballet flats, a gorgeous ruched gown, and some delicate and adorable accessories. She was elegantly understated, which was just so perfect for their venue and from what I gather, also perfect for her personality. Dan wore a dapper gray suit with purple tie. I loooove gray suits for grooms. They just photograph so well! Plus, I just love the color gray. The ceremony was held in one of the small courtyards just outside the main building. It was the perfect setting for their intimate ceremony. Their vows were heartfelt and beautiful. Tears were shed, but there were also moments of pure laughter.  The reception started off with the bride and groom doing their first dance. Again, so emotional and beautiful. Everyone knows I’m a sucker for love, so seeing the two of them so ridiculously in love, just about had me in tears. After some delicious food and lots of mingling, the reception was topped off with a dance off between a group of young boys and it. was. awesome. I could probably post 100 more photos of these little dudes rocking out and challenging each other, but I think you get the idea.

Oregon Wedding Photographer | preferred vendor: Hammelmans Dried Flowers

One of last year’s brides had a gorgeous dried flower bouquet, which can be seen HERE. Her bouquet was purchased off of Etsy (link is in that blog post), but because I love to support local businesses, I went and found Hammelmans Dried Flowers, LLC. They primarily do online sales, but they were kind enough to let me brows their warehouse and choose some flowers for a DIY bouquet. They grow the flowers there on site, which can be purchased while they’re still fresh, or after they’ve dried them. Their selection is enormous, beautiful, and so colorful!

Because our shoot was a a fun mix of pink, plaid, and voodoo donuts (full shoot can be seen HERE), I went ahead and chose some hot pink and yellow flowers for our fun bouquet and boutonniere. Dried flowers are surprisingly easy to work with.

If you are looking to make your own dried flower bouquets, I highly recommend Hammelmans, which is located on 950 acres in beautiful Mt. Angel Oregon. You can find more about this business by clicking the links below.
