First of all, I love elopements, so I am probably a bit biased here. Don’t get me wrong, I love weddings too and even had one myself, but elopements are my favorite. There’s just so much less fuss over everything that everyone is much more relaxed. Instead of worrying about the table settings, they’re focused on their vows and just being together. It often allows couples to tie the knot in locations they otherwise wouldn’t. There is no concern about having room for all of your guests or getting everyone out to the middle of nowhere or getting them up rocky terrain. Another bonus to elopements is that they’re usually budget friendly. Often times a couple can elope somewhere exotic and still pay less than they would for a local wedding, even with travel expenses. Even less expensive is eloping somewhere near your home.
As inspiration, I put together this elopement shoot in Manzanita, Oregon with Jesse and Vinessa. I kept track of how much everything cost so that I could share it here on my blog. I have family in Manzanita, so there were no costs for lodging, but if you live close enough you really wouldn’t even need a place to get ready (or you could just throw your dress on at a rest stop). I also did not include a fee for a celebrant, but often times couples have a friend or family member get ordained so that they can perform the ceremony free of charge. Having said that, I know some really awesome wedding officiants/celebrants, so if you would like a referral, just email me and ask (even if you’re not a client of mine)! As for a permit to marry on the beach…according to my research, it is not required for Oregon beaches, unless you have fifty or more guests or if you will have large tents, props, or equipment on the beach. I will list all of the pricing information at the end of this blog post. For now, enjoy the pretty photos, which were shot mostly on film, with a few digital shots at the end.
