As wedding season is about to kick off, I’d like to address something.
I am affordable and I cater to budget weddings, but I am not cheap!
Cheap implies poor quality.
Weddings are expensive. They just are.
Dress, venue, food, flowers, music, photography, etc… it adds up and it adds up quickly!
Obviously, I feel that photography is one of the most important things when planning a wedding. Even if you’re eloping or getting married at the courthouse, you should hire a good photographer (click HERE to read my full post on why wedding photography should be a priority). Simply put, the photos are what you, your children, and your grandchildren will look at when remembering your wedding day.
As a budget conscious person myself (I’m one of the best bargain shoppers you will ever meet, thanks to my Mom!), I understand that not everyone can spend the average $20k + on a wedding. Many can’t even spend $5k or $10k on a wedding. Some couples simply choose not to spend that much and to save their money for something else. Others just plan small backyard weddings (especially here in Oregon where backyards are beautiful!) and do not need 8-12 hours of photography coverage.
This is where I come on.
After shooting an amazing backyard wedding in 2013 (click here to see that wedding), I realized that not only do I loooove shooting little backyard affairs and small and intimate venues, but that there is a real need for photography that caters to these couples. So, the following year, I decided to specialize in smaller weddings. Not necessarily small in size, but small in budget and time. While I do offer services to those needing all day coverage, I primarily shoot weddings where a photographer is only needed for a short time. On top of that, I offer very basic (bare bones, as I like to say) packages. My basic wedding package includes my services for up to four hours and the digital files. I may or may not have an assistant with me, but I don’t include a second shooter, albums, prints, or anything else with my basic (4 hour) package. The reason for this is so that my couples can still have beautiful photography, but at a price within their budget.
So, while you may see my 4 hour price and think, “Wow, she is cheap,” I assure that I am not.
My full day coverage is twice as expensive and is pretty average as far as wedding photography prices go in this area. Furthermore, when you look at pricing for all day coverage, many photographers include extras like albums, prints, additional photographers, etc. So, yes, their overall price may be more than mine, but those couples are also getting more with that price. More time, products, etc. Those photographers aren’t overpriced any more than I am cheap. Everyone is getting their money’s worth, I assure you! The difference is that many photographers do not offer coverage for shorter amounts of time, like I do. Like I said, my basic wedding package is for up to 4 hours of coverage, but I also offer pricing for even smaller events, like elopements or courthouse ceremonies, where a photographer is only needed for an hour or two!
P.S. The bouquet pictured above is by Morning Glories Floral, who does beautiful work and also works with a variety of budgets.
